About
Growing flowers and vegetables is our passion
When we shopped around for our first house, “fertile soil” was at the top of our list because a garden was a necessity for us. The real estate agent thought we were nuts, since we refused to consider perfectly good houses just because the land was all sand or because it contained too many rocks. Other people might want nice kitchens, or bathrooms, but we knew that flowers, trees and plants needed to be a part of our lives. No garden, no sale.
My personal involvement with gardening started when I was very young. As a six-year old, I recall our family priest giving me my first African Violets and I remember failing miserably when I tried to plant a garden in the sandbox. My parents finally purchased a house when I was 12, and as they say, the rest is history. We didn’t have much money, so I became very adept at getting the neighbors to give me cuttings, plants, bulbs and seeds. Within a few years, there were iris, peonies and roses growing in our rocky soil.
We grew our plants organically, long before “organic” became a social buzz word. Instinctively I knew that anything that killed insects couldn’t be good for people, and stayed away from any chemical fertilizers or pesticides. To this day, I will not use BT in our gardens even though this has been approved by the organic growers.
For the last 12 years, we’ve grown flowers, garlic, mushrooms, peppers, tomatoes and herbs that we sell at our local farmers market. Over the years, we’ve learned gardening tips and tricks that we’d enjoy passing on to our audience. We created eGardeningBlog.com to provide you with free information on gardening.
So sit, back enjoy as we walk you through our garden. .
